Description:
A nice pair of U.S. Military Model 1840 Swords. These are called Musicians' swords as they were issued during the Civil War to the musicians who accompanied the troops so they could defend themselves if necessary. Both blades are 28" long with an overall sword length of 34 1/2" for each sword. The Ames sword is marked: "U.S.", "C.S.L." on the blade and "J.H." on the hand guard, and "1864". Overall condition is very good. . The brass handguard has a wire wrapped grip and a nice old patina. The blade is straight (no curves) and was blued.

The C.Roby sword blade is marked "U.S."," 1863," "F.S.S.". The blade was blued. .. The grip is  similar to the grip on the Ames sword. There are no scabbards for either sword. The overall condition is very  good. They could probably be polished and made bright and shiney but some collectors say that  reduces their value.

These would make a nice addition to any collection or would look great crossed on the   wall of your den.
