Almost all of the original blueing remains. The grip is brass also in excellent condition. It has a fullered blade on both sides (the "blood groove"). It is believed to be a Model Oct. 1869 and made in 1869. The blade is 22 & 1/2" long. The overall length is 27 & 1/4" The width of the curved blade varies from 7/8" to 1". . There are 5 proof marks near the grip. The makers name appears very faintly on the top edge of the blade. It appears to read: "Manuf-red Rbe de L+Etienne " or it could be "Manuf- Red DeArsenal St. Etienne". There is on the grip a spring type lock to fasten the bayonet to the rifle barrel. The serial # 30182 appears on the guard below the grip, and "2L" below that on the blade. A very nice example of this model bayonet in a hard to find condition.
