Description:
A French Rifle Bayonet from the St. Etienne arsenal  in 90 to 95% condition. Almost all of the original blueing remains. The grip is brass also in excellent condition. It has a fullered blade on both sides (the "blood groove"). It is believed to  be a Model Oct. 1869 and made in 1869. The blade is 22 & 1/2" long. The overall length is  27 & 1/4" The width of the curved blade varies from 7/8" to 1". .   There are 5 proof marks  near the grip.  The makers name appears very faintly on the top edge of the blade. It appears to read: "Manuf-red  Rbe de L+Etienne " or it could  be "Manuf- Red  DeArsenal St. Etienne". There is on the grip a spring type lock to fasten  the bayonet to the rifle barrel.  The serial # 30182 appears on the guard below the grip, and  "2L" below that on the blade.

A very nice example of this model bayonet  in a hard to find condition.
