Description:
This is a very nice all original Savage Model 1895 Rifle. Manufactured in 1896 with a Round 26" barrel. Matching numbers on Buttstock and Buttplate. Forearm is un-marked which is correct for this model. Serial #6616. Comes with Historical letter which is included. Has a Lyman "Jack" Ivory bead Dovetail front sight. Has a Marbles No.13 Express Buckhorn dovetail Rear sight and a mounted in the wood behind the tang a Lyman No.1 Tang sight with turn down aperature. The 26" round barrel has approx. 50% of original blue t remaining and the rest is turning to a pleasing plumb color. Has th "JM" in a circle Marlin Mark on barrel. Has the crescent buttplate. Original bluing is approx. 30% on top of reciever and top tang. Rest of reciever is a brown to grey patina showing wear in finish where carried. Has a brass rotor/counter that has the cocking indicator visible through a hole in top of bolt. Lever shows traces of case color in protected areas. The original varnish on the wood is approx. 60% remaining. It shows no evidence of ever being sanded! Wood is solid and fits perfect! It does show a few marks from handling and one tight crack on right side of top tang approx. 3/8" long. Action is strong and locks up tight. Screw heads are good and show little light molestation.
