Model 1861/1863 Rifle Musket Conversion VERY RARE, “Robert’s Pat. June 11 1867”, good condition overall, wood is in good condition with visible cartouches of script “WPT” and “BP”, wood has NO cracks, bore good, moderate pitting externally, heavy brown patina, missing cleaning rod and one lock plate screw, very scarce post-Civil War breech loading cartridge conversion of a Civil War musket, conversion performed by Brig. General B.S. Roberts US Army who developed a system of turning the .58 cal percussion into .58 cal Roberts Centerfire. Only 5000 made for sale and use by SC National Guard. Citing Flayderman 9A-351 "Suffering heavy loss and breakage while in service, the survival rate of these was very low, hence examples, especially those in finer grades, are very scarce".
