For sale, a beautiful vintage Sako Model L579 Forester Mannlicher rifle chambered in .308 Winchester complete with a gloss finish Leupold VX-2 Compact 3 to 9 power scope. This is a real European classic rifle that is considered just as much a classic here in the states. In 1957 Sako launched a lengthened action, the L57, subsequently renamed the L579 "Forester". This was a "medium" action intended for the .308 Winchester and similar cartridges. It quickly developed a reputation for being a great action that was both accurate and strong. Sako made the "Forester" line of rifles in both standard length stocks and full length Mannlichers from 1957 all the way into the 1990's. This particular L579 Mannlicher is serial number 113,000 and was made sometime between 1971 and 1972. It has been used and carried in the field, but well cared for. The original factory gloss blue finish rates a conservative 95% and looks beautiful. The bore is minty and bright, with strong rifling with sharp lands and grooves. The bolt is numbered properly with the last 3 numbers of the serial number (000) to match the rifle on the flat bottom of the bolt handle The two piece Mannlicher stock is also in great shape. It has some minor handling marks but is free from cracks and repairs, and has some nice grain and figure in the wood. It has a black Remington pad installed on the butt that is fit very nicely with a black and white spacer. The length of pull is 14.5 inches to the end of the pad. The rifle comes complete with a nice leather sling and a Leupold Vari-X 2 "Compact" 3-9x40 scope. The scope is a gloss black model that fits in perfectly with the gloss blued rifle and gloss finished stock. The windage and elevation adjustments work perfectly and the optics are crystal clear with no defects. Everything works 100% on this rifle like the day it left the factory. The action is really smooth and the trigger is crisp and light. If you have been looking for a very classy looking rifle that is first class in construction and accuracy, this Sako Forester Mannlicher would be an excellent choice. It can be carried in the field with confidence and pride, or put away in your collection as a sound investment.
