For some reason every time I see a Hotchkiss carbine advertised for sale it is usually a "Dog", with cracked or repaired wood, etc. This original example of a 2nd Model Carbine has excellent wood including the original finish and only minor handling marks from its 125+ years of existence. No cracks or repairs. Forend cap has original nickel finish and is fully functional (cleaning rods are not present). Bore ranges from bright and very good to several places with dark pits. Everything about this carbine is correct, including the rear sight. It is not made up from various parts guns. Serial range is 65xx. Metal is mostly a dark patina with some pitting on the barrel around the front sight. All in all a very nice representative 2nd model carbine.
