Description:
This is an Antique, Belknap Hardware Company holster with a Bell shaped Logo and NAP, stamped on the pouch of the holster. Perfect fit for a 5 1/2 or 4 3/4 barreled Colt SAA. (My Colt is not included) This famous catalog store and wholesale company was founded in Louisville Ky. on the banks of the Ohio river in 1840. Belknap hired the top makers of the day to do products for them and they put their name on them. This is a typical hardware store grade holster in brown 6 to 7 ounce leather. It bears the Bell shaped logo the letters N A P stamped in the center of the bell shape, "BELKNAP". On the back it has the catalog #H638 5 1/2 so you know it was for a Colt SA. This is the type holster that was purchased by working cowboys from a local general store as these stores order them from the likes Belknap Hardware, Sears & Roebucks and Montgomery Wards CONDITION is VERY GOOD and would give much service.
The finish shows some wear. Color is original,but now has a dull patina that bespeaks of honest use. There are some minor marks and scratches. The leather is holding its shape and is alive. The stitching is tight. The logo stamping, is deep and clear. An excellent collectible and display piece and for your vintage gun or it is ready for light use. Some bunk house pistolero has added spots and conchos.
