LICENSED Remington Rolling Block Military Rifle
One of the Most Rugged, Reliable & Popular Rifles of the 19th Century
Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block Military Rifle, made circa 1870. Denmark was the first of a long list of countries that would adopt the Remington Rolling Block for their militaries, after Sam Remington’s exhibition trip to Europe in 1866. Norway and Sweden each followed suit. The appeal of the Rolling Block was its strong, simple action. Though repeating rifles were becoming more and more refined and prevalent in civilian circles, militaries all around the world were still married to the idea of large bore, single shot rifles.
The overall condition is good. Metal has a deep dark patina. The only visible markings on the gun are a “Crown/BV” on the left side of the barrel, and crowns on the barrel bands. The stock is fair, with a bit of damage toward the muzzle. Front barrel band spring is a bit lax, causing the barrel band to slip. The bore is very nice, with sharp rifling and very clean. The action is strong.
