Description:
This 1880 hunting knife has a brass guard marked 3072 and US Sprinfgield. Knife remains in excellent condition with lightly sharpened blade shwing a few scratches and cleaned bright surface with a couple very small areas of light pitting. The 17 groove oak handle shows light wear and has impact marks on pommel obscuring any inspectors mark. The scabbard was originally built at Watervliet Arsenal with leather loop. It was later altered to a brass hook at Rock Island Arsenal. part of the original stamping shows by rivets, rear of hook is stamped ria. A very nice example of this popular US military knife.
