Description:
Serial #537229, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This ramrod bayonet-equipped rifle has retained 95-97% of the original blue on the barrel, receiver, and lock with some very mild fading and finish loss, mostly on the hammer and rear of the lockplate, as well as some thin silvering along the high and exposed edges. The 1884 dated breech block has 80-85% of the vivid, original color case-hardening remaining with freckled pewter gray on the balance, although the underside of the block is almost pristine. The walnut stock was arsenal refinished to excellent condition long ago with minor handling marks in the excellent oil finish and a still crisp and clear “SWP/1892" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The stock compartment is empty, the buttplate has a mottled gray-brown patina, and a previous owner lightly carved his initials in blocky capitals on the left side just behind the nosecap: “L.E." This is a great looking Trapdoor that has excellent original metal and handsome wood. Antique
