Description:
Extremely rare Winchester Model 54 Sniper's Match 30-06, the only one I have ever seen offered for sale. S/N 12*** Outstanding condition throughout with only light handling marks to wood and some flaking of blue on the floor plate/trigger guard. It features the massive profile 26" barrel with nearly perfect rust blue and an excellent bore, with UNDRILLED rear receiver bridge. The bolt body is of the correct model 54 profile and numbered to the receiver, with a pre war Model 70 profile bolt handle and gas porting, quite likely a production overlap during late 1935 (when this rifle was assembled/cataloged) and creation of the famed predecessor Model 70 which was already occuring simultaniously and introduced immediately afterward, having been deliberately postponed during 1935 to use up surplus Model 54 component inventory and to test acceptance of this rifle's new marksman style stock which was very well received by the public.
This rifle also wears the correct Lyman 17G front sight, factory scope blocks, and proper factory inletted long slide Lyman 48 receiver sight with all matching component numbers.
I have added a screen shot from the online Blue Book showing current value range which I am well below. The model number there is inadvertantly referred to as 57, but is intended to precisely describe THIS rifle. (The Model 57 is actually a low priced, entry level .22 caliber rifle).
This is an almost non existent and very desirable rifle in remarkable condition. It is highly unlikely you will ever have another opportunity to own one.
