Merkel 203E Sidelock 12 gauge O/U shotgun proof dated September 1952. 26” solid rib barrels, .730” (standard) bore diameter in both barrels and both choked .010” (light I/C), bores are bright and shiny. Beautifully game scene engraved hand detachable sidelocks; the rest of the coin finished receiver is fully engraved in a floral and scroll motif. Factory straight grip stock, double triggers with an articulated front trigger; 14 3/8” LOP over a 1” leather faced Pachmayr vented pad, 1 9/16” DAC, 2 1/8” DAH and neutral cast. Non-automatic safety. 6 lbs. 10 oz. Cosmetically this gun looks great from about 5’ away! Up close you will find some light surface rust on the barrels towards the muzzle, an assortment of light scuffs in the wood finish. Taking a close look at the barrel lugs it is obvious that some foreign objects were stuck between the lugs and frame sometime ago resulting in some gouges in the lugs! However mechanically this gun is very solid, tight and a really great upland bird gun; no cracks in the wood; just a gun that has seen its share of use. Priced accordingly.
