ORIGINAL U. S. MILITARY SPRINGFIELD, semi-automatic rifle, MODEL M1 GARAND NATIONAL MATCH, .30-06 caliber, serial number 6,099,542,
OFFICIAL PRODUCTION OF ALL M1 RIFLES CEASED IN THE SPRING OF 1957 WITH THE PRODUCTION OF APPROXIMATELY 2000 RIFLES BY THE ORIGINAL SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. THE LAST RECORDED OFFICIAL PRODUCTION NUMBER IS 6,100,499 PRODUCED IN MAY OF THAT YEAR.
ACCORDING TO THE SERIAL NUMBER ON THE M1 WE ARE OFFERING FOR SALE IT WAS ONE OF THE LAST 1000 OFFICIALLY MANUFACTURED M1'S. THE BARREL IS DATED MAY, 1956. RIFLE WAS ISSUED AS A NATIONAL MATCH RIFLE SOLD BY THE DCM ON NOVEMBER 24, 1958
ONE REFERENCE STATES THAT THE LAST NUMBER ASSIGNED TO SPRINGFIELD ARMORY WAS 6,099,905 WHICH WOULD MAKE THE THE RIFLE WE ARE OFFERING THE 363RD RIFLE FROM THE END OF OFFICIAL M1 PRODUCTION.
Condition: retains 100% original finish on metal and wood which are both in as close to UNBELIEVABLY PERFECT CONDITON as possible, MINT BORE OF COURSE, THIS ONE IS A PRIZE FOR THE SERIOUS COLLECTOR.
PROVENANCE: Included is an original letter from the DCM (Director of Civilian Marksmanship) dated March 24, 2015, certifying the rifles serial number and sale date and also that the rifle was shipped from Raritan Arsenal, Metuchen, NJ, as a NATIONAL MATCH RIFLE.
Also included is a copy of the DCM shipping label dated November 24, 1958 indicating that the rifle was a NATIONAL MATCH RIFLE. This rifle was purchased by us from the son of the original purchaser who was a member of the Maryland State Civilian Rifle Team in the 1937 National Matches. A copy of a letter dated August 13, 1937 lists the owner's father as one of the 13 members of the team.
