Description:
Springfield fencing musket. These guns were made up as training aid. The trapdoors were shortened, the opening latch ground down and the barrels filled with lead to give a more similar weight to a Springfield 1903. Stock shows the SWP/1881 cartouche and proof. Model 1873 rifles were modified and used with a leather covered bayonet for fencing. This fencing musket still has the original lead filled barrel. Overall good to very good with gouges to the stock from use. Forth model with 24" bbl. Missing cleaning rod as well as a hammer. Wood show the usual beatings, mars and dings. Traces of blue on barrel as well as traces of case color on trap door. Overall good condition. Scarce little gun to fill that hole in your Springfield collection! An affordable collectable.
