Winchester Model 1892 Sporting Rifle Special Order 26 inch Barrel .44-40wcf. The serial number of this example is 84275 placing date of manufacture in 1897. The Buffalo Bill Museum Letter that will accompany this rifle provides the following description at the time it was shipped: Type: Rifle, Caliber: .44, Barrel Type: Octagon, Barrel Length: 26 inches, Trigger: Plain, received into the Warehouse on: November 20th, 1897, Shipped from the Warehouse on November 23rd, 1897, Order Number: 23592. Overall condition of this rifle is very good with the factory rust blue finish turned a blue / plum patina. The bore is above average for an Antique. The rifle is strong with shine from breech to muzzle. The bore will rate an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. Wood to metal fit is perfect with the expected hits. No breaks, cracks or slivers missing. Nice rare Antique 1892 in the most sought after Caliber .44.
