Antique OTTOMAN TURK Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol
Inlaid with Mother of Pearl, Hammered & Engraved Silver
Here we present an antique Ottoman Turkish Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol, made circa 1800. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending vessels.
This specimen features mother of pearl inlays on the stock. The single barrel band is hammered silver with intricate designs engraved. The barrel is engraved along the whole top. The tip of the fore stock as well as the rearmost part of the butt stock is made of ivory. The side plate and hardware on the butt are engraved silver, both of which have fixtures for lanyard loops. The lock is marked with a crest. The trigger guard is also engraved silver.
The condition is good to very good. The iron parts are uniformly dark with age. The engraving is in good condition. The stock is damaged between the lock and the barrel tang, please see photos. Several of the inlays are absent. The bore is dark and smooth. The cock and trigger are functional, though the frizzen spring is absent. Overall, this is a fantastic example of Ottoman craftsmanship that will be the most talked about piece in your collection.
