Exceptionally fine cased pair of British Officer’s Pistols, ca.1805 Beautiful 8” barrels forged in a truncated tear-drop cross section to allow for the forging of an integral flat surface on top to serve as a “top rib”. Bores are .68 caliber and both bores and breeches are brilliant and pristine. Nicely engraved iron mounts retain much of the original black finish. Stocks with a few minor handling marks retain all their original finish. One stock has a minor repair just to the left over the side nail. Overall a very fine set in the original maker’s case with trade label and original accessories. Charles Grierson, a former workman of John Manton, had his own business in London from 1793 through 1841, and achieved status as “Gun maker To His Highness, George III”. SOLD Antique: Yes |
