Description:
Most people who own self-defense type shotguns keep them under the bed or somewhere else out of sight, and are not eager to show them off as most are just plain black tactical type guns that are strictly utilitarian in nature.  This is a chance to get a riot/self defense gun with some personality and class that anyone would be proud to show off with the rest of their gun collection.  This Ithaca Model 37 "Featherlight" 12 gauge started life as a plain barrel sporting gun with a standard length barrel choked "Modified".  At some point between 1955 and now, the barrel was cut down to 20 inches and sling swivels were added to make it into a self defense gun.  It is obvious from the excellent original factory blue finish that this Ithaca was never used before or after the modifications were done.  96%+ of the original factory gloss blue finish remains on all of the metal parts, and the original Walnut stock set is also in excellent condition.  Only under very close inspection can you see some tiny storage marks in the finish on the left side of the barrel and at the bottom of the magazine tube near the receiver, and working the pump has left some stripes in the finish on the magazine tube as well.  The original American Walnut stock set is free from cracks, repairs, or chips.  The factory original clear coat still looks excellent overall, and is not thinning in any areas including the pistol grip from carrying wear.  The factory grooves in the pump are still sharp for a solid grip, and the original Ithaca-branded buttplate is fit tightly to the butt and in very good shape.  The length of pull is 14 inches to the end of the buttplate.  The bore is mirror bright in the cut down barrel, with no dents or pitting whatsoever.  The serial number matching original barrel looks to have been cut-down professionally; the cut is 100% square and the brass bead front sight has been perfectly installed.  These Ithaca Model 37's quickly earned a reputation for being very well made, attractive, and reliable shotguns shortly after their introduction in 1937.  The bottom load/feed/eject design limits the exposure of the internals to dirt and fouling and made them ideal for nasty conditions in the field or anywhere else.  This same design feature also made the shotgun a very attractive pump gun, with both sides of the receiver symmetrical and flat for the very basic game scene engraving that Ithaca put on each Model 37.  These Model 37's were also capable of "slam firing".  This feature is not found on today's shotguns that allowed the shooter to fire the gun and keep the trigger held down while pumping to fire the shells in the magazine very quickly the second the bolt locks closed.  This beautiful vintage Ithaca 37 "Featherlight" would be a great addition to anyone's collection, and would make quite the capable yet very interesting home defense gun!
