Nice Smith & Wesson Model No. 1, First Issue Tip-Up Fourth Type Revolver (Serial Number Range for this Type was 3000 to 4200). These small 7-shot single action revolvers were the first cartridge, revolving cylinder, rear loading, guns manufactured in the United States and were fitted with a 3 3/16 inch tip-up octagon barrel, spur trigger, silver-plated brass frame, blue finished barrel and cylinder, circular sideplate, square butt rosewood grips, and were chambered in .22 Short. This gun, serial number 3247, is as described and is in good working order with the frame retaining slight traces of its original silver plate finish. The barrel and cylinder have lost all of their original finishes, turning a grey patina. The rosewood grips fit well and have no cracks or chips. The bore is shootable, with visable rifling, but does have some light corrosion. The hinge is tight and the barrel latches tightly, indicating light use. Includes a very rare, very attractive, 1 of 5000 manufactured Smith & Wesson Gutta Percha Case with the S&W Model No. 1 embossed on the lid. The case has its original embossed velvet liner, has tight hinges and it latches properly. It has some chips, but no cracks. A wonderful cased S&W Model No. 1.
