Antique AMERICAN BULL DOG 38 S&W Revolver
Made by Iver Johnson Circa 1890
Here we present an antique “AMERICAN BULL-DOG” .38 S&W Double Action Revolver, made circa 1890 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, by Iver Johnson. The revolver was a small, sturdy, well-built self-defense weapon, ideal for potent conceal and carry in the closing decades of the tumultuous 19th Century.
This revolver features a double/single action trigger and five shots of .38 S&W. The double action trigger is smooth and the single action trigger is crisp. The top of the barrel is marked “AMERICAN BULL DOG” and the grips have a dog’s head molded into them. The entirety is very nicely nickel plated.
The overall condition of this piece is very good. The nickel finish is about 85%. The markings are clear and legible. The hard rubber grips are fine. The bore is rifled and a bit oxidized. The action is functional, though the hand spring needs fixing, so that the cylinder revolves only intermittently. Overall a good-looking revolver!
