Description:
Numbered in the C 34,000 range, there were only 6150 of these rifles manufactured.  They are breech loading , .52 caliber, percussion fired rifles that were first used in the American Civil War by Col. Hiram Berdan's 1st and 2nd Regiments of the U.S. Sharpshooters in 1862.  This 1863 model has the same 30 inch barrel as the Berdan model but was issued to standard infantry companies.  The shorter carbine variation was produced in much larger quantities and was very popular with the U.S. Cavalry.  This 1863 Sharps is in excellent original condition, showing a near mint bore, about 75% of the original blue finish on the barrel, and it is mechanically perfect.  You can still make out the inspector's cartouche on the left side of the butt stock near the receiver and the original stock set is in great shape.  The patchbox still functions great and the adjustable rear sight still works like it should.  This would be a great addition to any Civil War collection.
