COLT MODEL 1902 AUTOMATIC PISTOL, MFG 1900-03, TOTAL RUN OF ABOUT 3500. Serial no. 6844. Round butt, round hammer, front slide serrations, no safety, no slide stop.
COLT FACTORY LETTER indicates this pistol was shipped to the E.L. Wilson Hardware, Co., Beaumont, TX on April 12, 1904. Only 6,915 Sporting Models were produced in serial # ranges #4275 to 11,000 and from #30,000 to 30,190. This pistol has about 60% blue on the right side, 30% on the bottom of the frame, 10% blue on the left side. The barrel itself is bright blue and the rifling is visible with no pitting. Where the pistol has lost blueing, it has a fine brown patine. Grips are excellent with no cracking or gouges.
This pistol was in the lifetime collection of my grandfather, John Benjamin Gillespie (1899-1973) former Aberdeen, Washington Chief of Detectives and has not seen the light of day for 50 years.
