Description:
For sale, an absolutely beautiful Inland M1 carbine manufactured in December of 1944.  This carbine appears to have escaped the rebuild process but has had an earlier Inland stock and blued flat bolt swapped into it.  We went thru this carbine and all of the parts are correct for a late WW2 December of 1944 gun except for the stock and bolt, which are earlier Inland variations.  At this point in production Inland carbines would have had a "low wood" stock and a blued round bolt.  Why these earlier parts were fitted on this rifle we are not sure, the best guess is that these earlier parts are more attractive to most collectors.  This carbine is serial number 6714523 and it came from the factory with the type 3 barrel band with a bayonet lug, and a stamped adjustable rear sight.  Those features are most commonly associated with a U.S. Military depot rebuild post-war, but that isn't the case with this late production M1 Carbine.  It also has a hand stamped "1" in the model designation above the chamber.  This is because at this time Inland was making both the M1 AND M2 carbine so the make and model roll stamp did not include a number.  Depending on what they were building at any given time in this period any receiver could be used for either model, so the number was hand stamped during the build.  The finish on this carbine is beautiful and 100% original.  The factory parkerizing rates a solid 97% with the only wear showing on the surface areas where the operating handle rides on the receiver and the lugs of the blued bolt.  The bore in this carbine is pristine.  It is mirror bright with sharp lands and grooves on the rifling.  There is no pitting or bore erosion of any kind.  The "high wood" Inland Walnut stock is a beauty.  It has a lot of contrasting grain running thru it and still retains the glossy luster it left the factory with.  The right side of the butt stock has the large U.S. Ordnance Wheel cartouche proper for Inland carbines, and the sling well is marked "IO".  The bottom of the pistol grip is marked with the "circle P" that Inland used as an inspection and acceptance stamp in early production.  The stock set is free from cracks or repairs, and it has a perfectly matching 2-rivet handguard also marked "IO".  If the new owner so chooses, he/she should be able to find a "low wood" Inland stock and a blued round Inland bolt fairly easily to make this Inland Carbine by-the-book 100% correct.  Those two parts are much more plentiful and less expensive than the early pieces on this gun.  This carbine comes with a "circle IU" WW2 15-round G.I. magazine that is also in excellent condition.  If you have been looking for a really nice M1 Carbine with tons of eye appeal, this Inland would be an excellent choice and a great investment.
