Col t Model 1902 Military .38 Rimless Smokeless with round, casehardened hammer and checkered slide grip (not serrated) on the FRONT of the slide. 8 shot magazine, slide stop. Left side of slide has Browning Patent in three lines with both 1897 and 1902. Right side has "Automatic Colt / Calibre 38 Rimless SMokeless" and toward the front slide grip, "Model 1902" Clip marked "Pat'd Sept 9, 1887"
Lanyard on left side. COLT FACTORY LETTER indicates the pistol was shipped to Pacific Hardware and Steel Co., San Francisco, CA on October 17, 1904.
Military Model serial numbers began at 11,000 and ran to 16,000 and then 30,200--43,266. This is an early prodeuction model withj the checkered slide grips in the front. Bore is spotless and grips are un worn, nor chips or cracks.
Fireblue on the pistol is 95%, the only wear showing on the metal of the pistol grip. Shiny bright fireblue and a premiere example of this Model. This is one the Rock Island folks are after! The pictures tell the tale.
This is another of the fantastic Colts from my grandfather's collection, John Benjamin Gillespie (1899--1973). It's not seen the light of day in more than 60 years. A stunning old turn of the 19th century Colt auto.
