L C Smith 20 gauge, Grade 2, SxS shotgun made in 1910. This delightful little has 28” barrels choked .003” & .005” for upland game and it was fitted with a 2nd set of Specialty Grade 28” barrels a few years later choked .035 & .035 extra full & extra full. NOTE: The Grade 2 stopped being produced in 1912 and was replaced by the Specialty so the addition of the 2nd set of barrels in Specialty Grade was appropriate! Both sets of barrels have individual splinter forearms and the bores are perfect and bright. Original blue on both sets is 97%.
The Grade 2 frame has a quail engraved on each sidelock and complimented with fine scroll engraving on the rest of the receiver. The frame and trigger guard are mostly devoid of original finishes with just a trace of colors behind the left shoulder and faded blue on the trigger guard.
The wood is a nicely figured American Walnut and configured in a Prince of Wales style half pistol grip. 14 1/8” LOP over the factory butt plate, 1 ½” DAC and 2 ¾” DAH with a slight right hand cast. Both forearms have an ebony insert and typical “roller” releases. Condition wise the wood is showing 107 years of light use with a number of “dings” and scuffs but no cracks or damage.
This gun weighs only 5 lbs. 11 oz. and balances right at the hinge pin.
