Description:

Very Unusual Southern Antique Percussion Long Rifle

Percussion Muzzle-Loader with Massive Stock

Here we present an antique Percussion Long Rifle, made circa 1840. This long rifle is very unusual in that its stock more resembles a piece of lumber, rather than the shapely and somewhat delicate stock normally seen on a gun like this. The origin of this rifle appears to be the American South. This is demonstrated by the shape of the butt stock, the design of the barrel tang, as well as the iron hardware (versus brass). One wonders if the large, blocky stock is a product of thrift, expediency or if the extra weight and broad base provided a sturdier platform for rested shooting.

Overall condition is good. The metal parts are dark with age. The stock is in very good condition. The bore is rifled and in good shape. The action is not functional. Here is an interesting one for your collection.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 41 inches in length.

Caliber: .36

Overall condition as seen in photos.
