*** SOLD *** “Live pigeon guns were very much the firm’s specialty” says famed author Nigel Brown and Boswell guns were certainly held in high esteem by the competitors of the day when this gun was made around 1901. It has a very strong action with side clips and a hidden cross bolt. The highly figured Damascus barrels were made for nitro proof and the original proof marks show proofing for 3” chambers and 4 tons of pressure! It also has highly figured wood and comes leather cased with the maker’s label. The engraving is full coverage and well done. Weighs 7lb 9oz. *** The swept back pistol grip stock is paired with a splinter forearm and made out of highly figured walnut. It appears to have recently been professionally refinished and the checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 1-7/8” very much to modern preferences. Cast off for right handed shooters. *** The 30” Damascus barrels have extractors and were proofed for 3” cartridges and 4 tons of pressure. The left barrel is marked 0.736 diameter on the flats and my gauge shows 0.737. The constriction is 0.040 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027. The right barrel is also listed at 0.736 on the flats and my gauge again shows 0.737. The constriction is 0.040 and also like the left barrel the minimum wall thickness is 0.027. Wonderful consistency. The barrels are topped by a flat crosshatched tapered pigeon rib. The rib is inscribed “CHARLES BOSWELL, MAKER. 126 STRAND. LONDON W.C.” *** Perfect for game, clays or live pigeons with a judicious choice of ammunition. A very handsome pigeon gun that you will be proud to own. Life is short. Write the check.
