It is in excellent condition cosmetically and mechanically. I don't believe it has seen much use at all. I have a letter of Authentication from Smith $ Wesson Historical which will be included, of course. This was one of the very last batch not sold to the British on contract during the WWI period because the third latch on the crane was too precisely fitted and could jam too easily on the field of combat, and the 2nd model came about, same gun without the third lock. Only 955 of these were made for the British out of the 5,000 contracted for, and this one was in the last batch of 160, sold from the S&W factory in the U.S. as commercial models. This firearm was sold to the Shapleigh Hardware Co. St. Louis, MO, December 29th, 1917. The Triple Lock was made from 1908 until 1915. Only about 15,000 were made. The likes of Elmer Keith, Bill Jordan, Skeeter Skelton and other famous pistoleros said that the triple lock was the best double action revolver ever made. The bluing is in 95%+ condition with very light scattered freckling, and a small amount of bluing wear at muzzle. Commercial finish is shinier than shows in the photos. Original grips are excellent with several tiny dings. On the front of the grip frame is very lightly etched, difficult to see, "USO 2678. Unsure of what it represents. The action is amazingly tight, and locks up beautifully. Crane and frame numbers match, as do the rear of cylinder and bottom of grip frame numbers, all correct and proper. Barrel roll stamped on left side, Smith & Wesson .455. All markings crisp and sharp. Bore and chambers are like new. Though commercial, there is a factory lanyard loop on grip frame. as requested by the British. This is an opportunity to purchase and own a rare and unique revolver, and hopefully for it to take a place of pride in someones collection.
