Description:
NSN, .69 cal., 42" barrel with a very good, freckled bore. This is an original, 2nd type Wickham-made flintlock musket that has an overall bright, pewter gray patina, and crisp contractor and US proof markings on the 1833 dated lockplate and breech end of the matching dated barrel. There are scattered spots of dark freckling throughout, and some lightly cleaned, plum-brown freckling and old pinprick pitting present surrounding the touch-hole. The walnut stock has a fine-near excellent original military oil finish with small handling marks and minor surface blemishes scattered about the wood, most noticeably a small bruise and straight line crack at the left side of the “83" marked sideplate. The buttplate tang has what looks like a partial unit marking, and the inspector cartouches are crisp and clear. A correct, all-metal ramrod is included and the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is an excellent example of a desirable Model 1816 contract musket, and would make a great addition to any collection of high grade U.S. weapons. Antique
