Description:
SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson first model “Baby Russian” .38 caliber single action revolver. Here is a scabby ole Smith &Wesson first model. It has the very odd backwards barrel address reading from the cylinder end to the muzzle.{see photos}.. In 30 plus years of collecting and dealing this is only the second one that I have had with the backwards address !!! I can't remember if the first one was a first or second model but was one or the other. This ole Smith has had some poor storage over the years as you can see. S/N 22516 and made close to the end of production. Only 25,548 made from 1876 to 1877. ALL matching numbers on the frame, barrel, barrel latch and cylinder.. Mechanics are excellent. Crisp and tight as a new gun with no cylinder play or wobble anywhere. Both hammer notches are perfect. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. Has the standard 3 1/4” barrel. Caliber is the standard .38 S&W black powder. The barrel has about 60% or so original nickel. The frame has 75% including the front and rear grip straps and the cylinder has about 50%. More pitting on the right side of the gun than the left. Looks like a mix of blood pitting and poor storage. This gun has a story to tell I am sure..!!!! The barrel latch still has 95% bright blue. Hammer case colors have faded. The screws are all perfect with no burring of the slots. The grips are excellent with NO cracks or chips and a perfect original fit to the gun. This is a “shooter” grade gun. The bore is very good with strong sharp rifling with just a few minor spots of roughness. The chambers are excellent with no pitting. Here is a very reasonably priced Baby Russian for a shooter and is very odd with the backwards barrel address. Probably only a few made with this rare feature. Would fill a spot in a collection of these very popular pocket revolvers with the address being backwards. $15 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any question or more photos of this beauty !!!!!
