Description:
This is the earliest and most complete Armalite AR-7 Explorer we have had in many, many years.  This is an original Costa Mesa California manufactured rifle where Armalite produced them from 1959 to 1973.  We have been unable to find a complete listing of serial numbers corresponding to date of manufacture but have learned that by 1964 they were in the 70k range and this example is in 50's.  So this particular Explorer was most likely made during 1962 or 1963.  This early example has the brown plastic flotation stock and is complete with the original box and the owners manual/parts list.  It has been used and carried some over the years but certainly well cared for.  There is some wear to the black painted finish on the metal parts and there are some superficial scratches on the stock but nothing major.  Most of the wear on the alloy/metal parts are from rubbing the interior storage compartments of the stock while being stored.  Mechanically this AR-7 is perfect and shows very little wear on the visible internals and bolt face.  The bore is bright and clean in the removable barrel with sharp lands and grooves showing in the rifling.  The magazine still has a lot of spring pressure and has not likely been stored loaded up, which weakens them over time.  The stock is 100% free from cracks, repairs, or chips.  It will still function exactly as it was intended to and will float if dropped in water.  As you can see in the pictures the original box still looks good overall and has a solid hinge.  It shows some yellowing from age but the printing is still nice and clear.  The original manual/parts list is also included and is in similar condition.  These were pretty ahead of their time when they came out in the late 1950's and actually sold pretty well despite the radical design.  Since Armalite moved and discontinued production in 1973 the design has been bought and produced by at least 4 other companies.  The Henry company is the latest to make a variation of this model.  If you have been looking for a nice vintage original example that is 100% complete, functional, and in good overall condition, here is your chance!!!
