RARE JOHN RIGBY & CO. 450 BORE NITRO EXPRESS HAMMER DOUBLE BIG GAME RIFLE CA. 1905. All matching and original serial numbered in the 17xxx range for 1905 manufacture date. 45” o/a with 28” London Nitro Proofs stamped on the flats and having express ramp front and 3 leaf rear sights. Center rib engraved “JNO. RIGBY & CO. 72 ST. JAMES STREET LONDON”. Right barrel engraved “FOR SPECIAL CORDITE CARTRIDGE & BULLET. 480 GRAINS”. Left barrel engraved “SPECIAL 450 BORE BIG GAME RIFLE”. Both lock plates engraved with makers name. Factory London scroll engraving on locks, frame and mounts. English walnut stock and forend with fine checkering. 14 ¾” pull over pad and 1 ½”, 2 1/8th” drop. Weight 11 pounds, 7 ounces. All original with barrels London re-blacked. Frame, locks and hammers with the original case hardening. Stock and forend with the original finish. Perfect working order and mint bores. Nitro production hammer Rigby Big Game Rifles are quite rare and this is a particularly nice one with superb bores - even more rare as the cordite of the day was highly corrosive. Extra nice.
