079-0717-3249, Whitney Model 1841 Mississippi Rifle in original .54 cal, original metal and wood with 1855 date on lock and appears same on barrel upper tang. (Only 100 are thought to have this date, but more show up than expected so probably more than that made.) With proofs on barrel breech. No visible cartouches, so appears a Militia rifle. Crisp action, visible markings with slightly difficult to read date on upper tang. Strong rifling with coating of rust in bore. Much better than average overall. It has an iron tipped ramrod tip. Which is correct for guns equiped to fire pointed minnie balls. Mottled stained brown barrel with light s and dings. Much less in the way of markings than you normally find. Fine overall. If you are looking for a good honest Mississsippi, not sand or altered and in condition as issued during term of service. Here is one.
