New Model POLICE Remington Cartridge Revolver
Scarce, Neat Cartridge Converted Revolver
Here we present an antique Remington New Model Police Revolver, made circa 1873. The New Model began production as a percussion pistol, but was quickly adapted to metallic cartridges, so that the greater balance of the 18,000 production was made in cartridge format. The New Model Police was a product offering intended to compete directly with Colt’s 1862 Police Revolver, vying for the same urban law enforcement market, which preferred small, light and handy revolvers to the larger, more powerful revolvers used by the military. The factory conversion of a percussion pistol to cartridge involved machining out part of the frame, as well as machining the cylinder and fitting it with a special cap. These are scarce and hard to find today.
The barrel address is “PATENTED SEPTEMBER 14 1859/REMINGTON & SONS ILION NEW YORK USA/NEW MODEL”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces bear some of the original nickel finish. The markings are clear and legible. Serial numbers match. The grips are in very good condition. The bore is in good condition. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic Remington revolver that was updated to stay relevant in the late 19th Century!
