This is a rare federal accoutrement an original Spencer saber (aka sword ) bayonet for the Spencer Navy Rifle in good condition.Produced by the COLLINS & COMPANY OF HARTFORD CONN. only 750 were contracted and the date stamped on the reverse is 1861. The iron release pin is intact and works well.All the brass has a mellow bronze patina, the blade has a very small amount of pitting and has been sharpened. On the doves head style pommelis the number 172 stamped this has to be a very early made saber bayonet. Call 859-533-5445. my zip is 48653.
