Description:
SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 70 SUPER GRADE AFRICAN BOLT ACTION RIFLE Cal 458 Win Mag. Fine deluxe rifle with 24-1/2″ tapered rnd bbl, ramp front sight with hood & a Winchester adjustable sporting rear sight. Rifle has standard bbl markings with standard receiver markings. Bolt body, extractor & follower are jeweled. Bolt knob is drilled and safety is 3rd type. Bolt is matching numbered to the rifle. Floor plate is marked “-SUPER GRADE-“. Mounted in straight grain American walnut with 18-line diamond checkering, black forend tip, 2 reinforcing bolts, oval steel grip cap and a Winchester solid red pad. Buttstock is Monte Carlo style with a shallow cheek piece. Few of the Model 70s were produced in the big 458 caliber and of those extremely few were produced in super grade. Those rifles usually saw hard service in the major game areas of Africa and Alaska and often show their hard service. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine, all matching. Metal retains about 98% strong orig blue showing only faint sharp edge wear from handling. Floor plate has a small scratch. Bolt body & rails show light wear, heavier on the bolt body. Wood is sound with a couple of scrapes at left side of receiver, a series of small nicks on the comb and retains most of its orig finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Shows little evidence of having been fired, just handled. 51606-2 JRL (4,500-7,500) C&R – Lot 1
