BRITISH Antique SHARPE of LONDON Flintlock FOWLER
From the American Colonial Period
Here we present an antique Sharpe of London Flintlock Fowling Piece, made circa the mid-to-late 18th Century. These early single shot, muzzle loading shotguns were a vital implement for many living a subsistence type of life-style, as well as for those who loved to hunt fowl. This long-barreled fowler features a lock marked “SHARPE” and a barrel marked “LONDON”. The lock, brass trigger guard and butt plate are nicely engraved. The left side of the barrel bears British proof marks.
The overall condition is very good. The metal is dark and untouched with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock shows period use and remains solid. The bore is dark and untouched. The action is excellent and crisp. Here is a fantastic example of a British fowler!
