Description:
Beautiful Purdey Pre-War Game Gun w/ Oak & Leather Purdey Case & Accessories. SN:23747. Made in 1927. 12ga. 28"bbls choked IC & 3/4, as Purdey re-barreled in 1975. Game rib inscribed "J. Purdey & Sons. Audley House. South Audley Street. London. England." . Ejectors. 2 1/2" chambers. Nitro proofed for 3 tons and stamped with "LP (over) 75" for London Proof 1975. Both barrel tubes properly marked with SN. Wall thickness .034/.035. Best sidelock self-opener action. Engraved in fine rose & scroll Purdey signature pattern. Automatic safety. Double triggers. Beautiful dark-streaked English walnut straight-grip stock and splinter forend, as re-stocked by Purdey in 1976 (with documentation). Fine bordered checkering and checkered butt. 15 1/8" LOP, 1 1/2"DAC, 2" DAH, 3/8" cast-off. Gold initial oval in toe-line script engraved with "RB". Weight 6lbs 6.5oz. Purdey oak & leather case with maker's label and charge card. Cover medallion engraved in script with initials "RB". A fine game gun with great dimensions and good chokes. Would make for a wonderful companion afield.
Condition: Gun is in beautiful overall condition as partially Purdey factory restored. Barrels retain most all of their lustrous blue with very small area of surface marks on top right barrel 8" from breech. Barrels chime like church bells. Barrels on-face and ejectors in-time and strong. Action is a pleasing coin finish overall. Wood and checkering in very good condition with faint 3.5" length surface scratch on left bottom side of stock (could be easily removed). Oak and leather case in excellent overall condition.
