Description:
SOLD..Antique model 1894 Winchester 26” octagon barrel 38-55 caliber. Here is a very nice and honest antique 1894 Winchester. In the very sought after 38-55 caliber. Has the standard 26” octagon barrel. This is a true antique 94 with a low S/N of 29545. Cody work sheet is correct octagon barrel, 38-55, plain trigger, shipped 11-27-1897.... The bore is excellent bright and shiny very near mint condition. NO rings or bulges. Just a fantastic bore on this ole 94. The mechanics are excellent as well. It feeds, fires and ejects like a new gun. It shoots as good as a new gun also. The markings are excellent throughout. Has the original rear flat top sight with a new sight elevator only is replaced and the front sight is an original Lyman and looks to be dated Oct. 95 hard to read so I will say both sights are original and just the rear sight elevator is a newer replacement. The metal is mostly a smooth graying patina with very good traces of blue remaining on the mag tube maybe 25%. Shows a spot on the barrel and mag tube of some surface crud that has been very lightly cleaned but not with anything agressive and is very smooth. Traces of blue on the barrel along the forearm and traces on the receiver on the rear area and around both sides of the hammer. There is a couple small spot of pitting on the left side of the mag tube about two inches below the tube retaining ring and that is it. Very smooth good looking gun. The screws are for the most part are nice and clean and not burred up. Some do show some turning as expected but nothing abused. Some still have 100 year old grease in them on the lower tang. The wood is very good. The forearm fits tight and pretty much fits level with the metal and just shows normal honest use with some scratches on the right side {see photo}. They bleed onto the barrel a little as you can see. The scratches on the barrel are NOT into the metal, just the patina finish. You can not feel them with your finger nail.. Just normal use as a hunting rifle and really does not detract from the gun. Also a very small ship on the left side along the barrel as you can see and again, pretty minor and just from honest use. The butt stock is very nice. Fits tight to the metal as you can see with no slivers or missing pieces. Does have a very small and very minor 1/2" long grain crack on the left side coming off the rear of the receiver but is still very solid and not going anywhere. Don't even know if you can see it in my photos it is so small.... No other spits or cracks and no repairs. Butt stock has some very pretty grain figure as you can see.. The wood still very good and just shows normal use as a hunting rifle will show that has been used. Not much else to say about this ole 94. True antique 94's are getting harder to find with a little finish and minty bright bores. Here is one that is still very nice and would make a fantastic hunting rifle or a shooter and still a fine collectible rifle at a reasonable price. If this one had an average pitted bore like most you will find of course it would be priced cheaper, but this is not the case here and the price is set considering the bore on this one. If it don't sell, I'll keep'er around for a while. Every Winchester collector or shooter should have at least one antique 94... Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Thank you for looking and check back often.
