Antique WM MOORE of LONDON Double Barrel Shotgun
Here we present an antique William Moore of London Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun, made circa 1840. Moore was born in the late 18th Century and worked for famed English gun maker Joseph Manton. He began working in his own name in 1820, growing his business and making his name. He was appointed Gunmaker-in-Ordinary to King William IV in 1836. He was especially known for making shotguns.
This shotgun is marked “Wm MOORE &Co. LONDON” on each lock. The top of the barrel is marked “CURRITUCK STEEL”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is very smooth and solid. The bores are dark and untouched. The action is very strong.
