ENGRAVED w GOLD Belgian Antique PINFIRE Revolver
Gorgeously Engraved & Gold Inlaid European Handgun
Here we present an antique Belgian Pinfire Revolver, made in Liege, Belgium circa 1850. Casimir Lefaucheux patented the pinfire cartridge in 1835 and son Eugene designed the revolver. The pinfire cartridge was one of the first successful self-contained cartridges in history, and the pistol saw prolific use in Europe during the 19th century, even being adopted by some militaries and police.
This pistol features very nice, deep and detailed engraving. The borders are inlaid with thin lines of gold. The underside of the barrel lug is marked “NM”, almost certainly a maker’s mark. Barrel is fully octagonal. The pommel has a built in lanyard.
The overall condition is near fine. The metal surfaces retain about 10% of the original blue with the rest turning to a dark gray patina. The engraving and markings are clear and legible. The wooden grips are smooth and very nice. The bore is rifled and a bit oxidized. The action is excellent. Here is a gorgeous European revolver.
