The small frame Colt Lightning rifles were offered in either .22 Short or .22 Long, and were made from 1887 to 1904. This example is serial number 15490, chambered in .22 Long, and was manufactured in 1893 which qualifies it as an "antique". It is certainly one of the best conditioned examples we have had in 43 plus years of doing business. It retains a very conservative 80% of the original Colt factory gloss blue finish. The bore in this Lightning is spectacular, quite rare for these rifles in the age of black powder .22 loads that were used for years. The original Walnut stock set retains nearly all of the "piano-like" factory gloss finish, and the checkering on the forearm is still in excellent shape as well with just a few handling marks but still very clean. This Colt Lightning is equipped with a vintage folding tang mounted peep sight and a Beech style flip-up front sight. This Colt Lightning was certainly someone's pride and joy in the 19th century, and it can now be yours. This Lightning would be a centerpiece to any Colt rifle collection, and an excellent investment piece that is seldom seen on the market. This Lightning comes with a Colt factory letter showing a shipment date of 1893.
