Description:
The Colt "Lightning" Medium Frame Rifle was made from 1884 to 1902, with approximately 90,000 manufactured.  The guns were fitted with standard 26 inch barrels, but could be had with 18, 20, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30, 32, or 34 inch long barrels, either round (standard) or octagon, were blue (standard) or nickel finished on special order basis,  1/2, 2/3, or full length tube (standard) magazines, sliding breech covers on guns made after serial # 22950, fitted with a standard open adjustable sporting type rear sight and a front sight with German silver blade set into a dovetailed steel base, and were chambered in either .32 CLMR (.32-20 WCF), .38 CLMR (.38-40 WCF), or .44 CLMR (.44-40 WCF).  This 1885 vintage (second year production, serial # 5832) rifle is of standard configuration and is chambered in .44-40.  It is in excellent original condition, retaining 95% blue on the barrel and magazine tube, 60-70% blue on the receiver, and 85% on the lower tang/trigger guard.  The hammer retains most of its original color case-hardened finish and the butt-plate has lost most all of its original finish, having turned a silver/grey patina.  The checkered walnut forearm retains most all of its original finish, with sharp checkering and minimal handling marks.  The walnut stock retains most all of its original finish with assorted handling marks/dings/dents/scratches.  The bore is bright with some minor spotting in the grooves.  The action functions perfectly and most of the screw-heads are un-molested.  All stampings are crisp.  A very nice looking Colt "Lightning" and a very good example of its type.                 PRICE:    $5,250     We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.   PH. 859-276-1419         We Buy, Sell and Trade Firearms & Knives.    Have a Individual FirearmFirearms Collection, or Firearms Estate to sell, let us know, we can buy or consignment sell it for you.       (sales at am-firearms)
