Description:
VERY EARLY AND SCARCE CONFIGURATION NEW SERVICE REVOLVER! This is a .44-40 caliber with seldom seen 4 1/2" barrel, #15XXX, made 1906, a fine example that has even blue overall ageing/mixing naturally with plum-brown. All the more protected areas like the cylinder flutes and most of the outside of the cylinder, barrel top and bottom, front of frame and recessed areas overall show good blue with the balance aged, has all early correct markings with the last patent date in two lines on the barrel of 1900, left side of barrel marked "NEW SERVICE CAL .44", bore could use a good brushing out but will be excellent, fine action, left grip is excellent with the right probably a correct replacement that fits very well, swivel intact, shark fin front sight, exc. early New Service frame stamping around the rampant colt (only the earliest of these has this), If I'd been around in 1906 and looking for a big frontier revolver, I'd have broken with tradition and  bought this one to pair up with a .44-40 rifle or carbine! This example came out of Arizona.
