Description:

A Welke, Berlin, true sidelock drilling.  The 16x16x8 mauser 24 3/8” barrels are proof dated November 1935, chambered for 2 ¾” shotgun shells and both shotgun barrels are choked, a very tight, .037” extra full.  All three bores are mirror bright.  On top of the barrels there are claw mounts to accommodate two different length sets of bases; one about 7” spacing and the other about 3”.  The coin-finished frame is nicely engraved in a “heavy” floral pattern and the left lock plate is game scene engraved with red stag and roe deer on the right lock plate.  Both sidelock plates also have gold inlaid “arrow” cocking indicators for the shotgun barrels.  The barrels are secured to the action with two underlug locks and a Greener style cross bolt.  The safety is located on the left lock plate and the rifle selector is on the top tang, which also activates the flip up rear sight.  This drilling has double triggers with the front trigger adjustable for the rifle.

The buttstock has a round knob style pistol grip with a raised right-hand cheek piece.  The length of pull is 13 3/8” to the basket weave horn butt plate.

The gun is mechanically perfect, on-face and tight.  Cosmetically the barrel blue is 97%, thinning a little at the muzzle. The stock and forearm finishes are 95%, no cracks or damage with very fine checkering.  The horn trigger guard has a crack in the bottom, a chip near the crack and bug damage along the tang.  The butt plate has also served as a meal or two for some bugs over the years!

All in all a very nice 82 year old drilling in a popular gauge/caliber configuration and also being a true 7-pin sidelock with excellent engraving.  Weight is 6 lbs. 13 oz.
