Description:
SOLD ** Beretta/Pedretti SO5 EELL, 12 ga., 28” bls, 5 Briley thinwall chokes, 99%, new bores, VERY RARE Giancarlo Pedretti engraved gun.

The cost of an engraved gun by the late great G.Pedretti started at $45,000 and that was not full coverage as this gun is, and signed.

This is a superior hand-detachable, full sidelock deluxe, with selective single trigger.

Investment Grade, the late Giancarlo Pedreti died last year, one of the greatest Italian masters who also engraved some Purdey’s.  Examples of his work are expected to reach or surpass the values of another great master, Firmo Fracassi… just check out the photos.

Other features: Ventilated rib, Boehler Antinit steel barrels, 2¾” chambers, the single selective trigger is gold-plated with checkered face, pierced top lever, gold crown on the top lever, and jeweled forend iron on the inside and the barrel sides.

The game forend and pistol grip stock are French walnut, beautiful with dense figure and excellent color in rich deep brown tones with subtle dark brown fancy figure, much like the best English guns and atypical for Beretta.  The rich color and grain is brought out by the many hand-rubbed coats of oil finish. The pistol grip cap is horn.

It is hand-checkered with perfect point patterns on the pistol grip and a generous full wrap-around pattern on the forend (checkeing is 26 lpi). Dimensions are LOP 14 5/16” to ¾” brown leather recoil pad; DOC 1 ½” and DOH 2” and its weight is 7 lbs 9 oz. Neutral stock for the right or left hand.

This is the best of the best of Beretta’s SO work.

Until the SO9 made its debut in 1990, the SO5EELL was the flagship sidelock over/under representing Beretta’s absolute finest craftsmanship. With full coverage deep relief acanthus scroll engraving by “G.Pedretti,” this SO5EELL is a fabulous piece that has been kept in 99% condition throughout, even though built in 1971. With its EELL features, this gun is a magnificent example of the highest grade Beretta -- a Best Gun.

Both “SO5” and the serial number, 38718, are marked on the barrel block and the water table and the serial number is inscribed again on the trigger tang.

EELL features:
Engraving is 100% coverage done masterfully in a heavy bouquet/ floral design with intertwined vines; and in this case, a rare example by G.Pedretti. There are 8 retainer screws, including the replaceable locking shoulders on the barrel, which secure key screws on the frame and forend iron.

Condition:
Near new, the original wood finish remains at 98% condition, the checkering remains at 100%, the original barrel blue is still at 99%. The trigger guard and tang still have 100% blue. The bores remain new as they were when made. This gun has not been used or shot much as it looks new inside and out. Comes with Beretta leather case.

*About the engraver: Giancarlo Pedretti (1947-2016) was born into a family of gunmakers in Gardone, Italy. In the early 1960s the Pedretti Bros, Giancarlo’s father and uncles, were the leading gunmakers in what was called Beretta's ' Cappa Due' or K2 department. They were chosen for the special small-shop production of the SO series shotguns still coveted today. They built only the finest Beretta Sporting Arms, those suitable for kings, presidents and celebrities such as Ernest Hemingway. Here worked a trio of Master Engravers second to none-- Tononcelli, Bregoli and Baglioni.  There, learning of his son’s interest, Giancarlo’s father approached the master engraver, Stefano Tononcelli, to take his 13-year old son into a 3-year apprenticeship. Giancarlo worked a Summer with Tononcelli as a young boy and impressed the elders with his ability, and afterwards was offered an apprenticeship, at that time an exceptional achievement and honor. Completing his apprenticeship at age 16, he was immediately hired by Beretta. Giancarlo proceeded to push the boundaries of his art and trade. “He was the first to open the shop in the morning and the last to close at night” a quote from the book, Giancarlo & Stefano Pedretti- Master Engravers. Early in his career, Giancarlo developed a reputation as multi-talented engraver in an array of styles, from scroll to bulino game scenes. Giancarlo spent his entire working life perfecting his craft, engraving for Beretta, Abbiatico and Salvinelli, Piotti, Luciano Bosis and many others of the world's finest gun- makers. He was the first Italian engraver to be invited to work with British Gunmaker, Purdey. Giancarlo had learned his trade from the best and worked tirelessly for many years to produce the very best artwork on the very best guns. He was one of the world’s great artisans.

The Thirty-Fourth Edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values shows the current MSRP for this gun is $37,500 without Pedretti’s touch… who knows what to add for that… anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000.

Priced here to sell at $18,750.00
