Description:
A nice J.M. Marlin Ballard Hunter 1-1/2 rifle chambered in 32-40, SN 16593, probably manufactured in the late 1880’s. This Ballard Hunter 1-1/2 rifle sports a 29-3/4" (likely shortened up a tad), part round/part octagonal barrel and a formerly case colored receiver, now a mottled silver/gray patina. The barrel has some minor pitting on the top front; generous amounts of bluing, appearing to be all original, turning to a light patina with appropriate wear on the sharp edges of the barrel flats. The bore is very good for its age, with crisp rifling, and showing some darkening in the grooves; will definitely kill a deer. The fore-end and butt-stock were likely refinished at one time, but fit well, culminating in a crescent style butt plate. The left side of the butt stock shows a check in the wood (see photo). Single standard trigger. The tang sight is a rare “long staff Marlin Gallery Peep sight, and is accompanied by a Ballard Globe front sight with fixed pinhead post. The top of the barrel is not cut for a rifle sight. NRA antique fine condition. This is an antique so no license is required.
$2250 plus shipping.
