Description:

Roberts Conversion of an 1862 Date Tower Enfield Musket. Conversion receiver marked “Roberts patent June 11, 1867”. This appears to be the “short” action conversion. Bore is excellent and action works perfectly. From literature, is seems that the Roberts Breech Loading Arms Co. would convert various percussion rifles to the Roberts system. Also noted was that Schuyler Hartley and Graham in New York acted as an agent for the Roberts Breech Loading Arms Company. Roberts sold their guns in foreign countries and relatively few in the U.S. We are of the opinion that this example may have been sold to France to replace the rifles lost to the Prussians in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. The French consul in New York City ordered 5790 Roberts muskets from Schuyler Hartley and Graham. More info in the book Roberts Breech Loading Firearms by Ed Hull.
