Antique Colt 1877 Lightning Revolver
ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE & EXQUISITE
Here we present an antique Colt 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver, made in 1895. The Model 1877 was Colt’s first venture into double action revolvers, with the Model 1878 following close on its heels. The US military stuck with the Single Action Army for quite some time to come, but the public made these revolvers a success. One famous user, outlaw William “Billy the Kid” Bonney was carrying one when he was shot and killed by Pat Garrett.
The barrel is marked “COLT D.A. 38” on the left side. It is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” Patent dates of 1871, 74 and 75 are located on the left side of the frame. The hard rubber grips bear the iconic rampant colt. This revolver has been tastefully refinished with a nice combination of bluing and case hardening.
The overall condition is fine. The blue finish and case colors on this revolver are virtually complete. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The grips are in fine condition. The bore is well-rifled with a frosted appearance. The action is excellent. Here is a great looking Colt for your collection!
