Description:
NSN, .50 CF, 28 7/8" barrel with a very good bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is a short barreled, two band variant that has an overall, lightly pitted gray patina streaked with darker plum-brown. There are traces of old blue on the breech latch, and the 1865 dated lockplate still has legible markings. The short walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and bruises scattered throughout, along with some hairline cracks at the rear lock screw and rear tip of the lockplate. Additionally, there are some small chips along the ramrod channel, and at the toe of the butt as well. The rifle does not comes with a ramrod, and is mechanically functional, but the mainspring is a trifle soft. This is an about very good, short variant 1866 Trapdoor overall. Antique
